Heavy Metal Poisoning

Heavy metal poisoning is the accumulation of heavy metals, in toxic amounts, in the soft tissues of the body. Symptoms and physical findings associated with heavy metal poisoning vary according to the metal accumulated. Many of the heavy metals, such as zinc, copper, chromium, iron and manganese, are essential to body function in very small amounts. But, if these metals accumulate in the body in concentrations sufficient to cause poisoning, then serious damage may occur. The heavy metals most commonly associated with poisoning of humans are lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium. Heavy metal poisoning may occur as a result of industrial exposure, air or water pollution, foods, medicines, improperly coated food containers, or the ingestion of lead-based paints. (Source: NORD)

Exposure to organic methyl mercury most often comes from fish, with shark, swordfish and tuna being the most toxic.  Inorganic mercury often comes from Amalgam fillings which is very toxic to extracellular matrix such as connective tissue.  This can result in joint and muscle pain.

Allergens

An allergen is a usually harmless substance capable of triggering a response that starts in the immune system and results in an allergic reaction. In addition to pollen, other common allergens include dust mites, animal dander, mold, medications, insect venoms and various foods.  Allergens are microscopic and circulate freely via HVAC. (Source: AAAAI)

Allergic diseases are on the rise.  Research indicates more then 50 million Americans have an allergic response to something.  An allergy is really an immune system problem.  It is important to know your immune system is spread all over the body with a large percentage of it located in the “gut”.  This is part of the reason when getting to the root cause we like to talk about your “gut” so much.  In order to help allergic response we must work on the whole person.  Research is also beginning to link allergies to some mental emotional symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, memory loss and mood swings to name a few.

Germs

Germs are otherwise referred to as pathogens or micro-organisms, especially ones that causes disease. Examples include: microbe, micro-organism, bacillus, bacterium, or virus. It is more common now to have less resistance to germs as we are obsessed with cleanliness and use so many antibacterial products like hand sanitizer, soaps and cleaning agents.

Fungus (Mold)

fungus is any member of the group of eukaryotic organisms that includes microorganisms such as yeasts and molds. Mold is a type of fungus. Some types of mold are commonly known as mildew. Mold may live indoors or outdoors and thrives in damp, warm, and humid environments. Although shower stalls and basements are typical moist areas prone to the growth of molds, any moist area in the household may harbor mold, especially water-damaged buildings.  Mold exists everywhere; however, it colonizes indoors in places where it has a water source (leak, humidity) and food (building materials, adhesives, cellulose).

Toxic Chemicals

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency or EPA defines a toxic chemical as any substance which may be harmful to the environment or hazardous to your health if inhaled, ingested or absorbed through the skin.  Examples of common toxic chemicals brought into a home include: drain cleaner, laundry detergent, furniture polish, gasoline, pesticides, ammonia, toilet bowl cleaner, motor oil, bleach, battery acid.  Chemical off-gassing occurs when building materials and furnishings that are made with formaldehyde or treated with flame-retardant chemicals.  The new car smell we have learned to love is chemicals off gassing.

Subterraneous Gases and Fumes

Invisible gases can seep into homes from a variety of sources and invisible and dangerous if ingested in quantities. Radon is a byproduct of naturally occurring radium and uranium breaking down under the earth's surface.  Radon is problematic only if it gets trapped in poorly ventilated homes, which can happen in areas where geological conditions produce it in higher concentrations.

Carbon Monoxide poisoning, caused by malfunctioning fuel burning appliances such as furnaces, ranges, water and room heaters, can also become toxic and fatal.

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF)

The body contains multiple electromagnetic fields with each tissue and organ having a unique electromagnetic signature. Computerized Axial Tomography (CAT) scans and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans take advantage of these unique signatures to create a map of the body’s tissues using pulsed electromagnetic fields. While the diagnostic benefits of PEMFs are accepted and widely used, medical practitioners are still realizing the therapeutic benefits of PEMF therapy to promote healing of soft tissue injuries, inflamed joints, fractures, and improve circulation and cellular metabolism.  PEMF therapy can often help cells rebalance dysfunction.

Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy can be effective for a variety of health-related purposes, including to relieve pain, rehabilitate sports injuries, reduce stress, increase relaxation, address anxiety and depression, and aid general wellness.  Massage is a form of detoxification for the body as it stimulates the lymphatic system.  Always hydrate well after your massage to remove toxins.

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy (FIR)

Infrared saunas are an effective tool for natural healing and prevention. Sweating is good for you. It is the body’s safe and natural way to heal and stay healthy. This results in a deep, detoxifying sweat at the cellular level, where toxins reside. Infrared sauna heat penetrates tissue, joints and muscles to relieve anything from minor aches and decrease pain and muscle spasms and to speed up recovery time.  FIR sauna technology is a proven way to get rid of stored environmental chemicals. For many sauna is a basic part of everyday life.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture, one of the practices used in traditional Chinese medicine, is a technique in which practitioners stimulate specific points on meridians in the body. The goal of acupuncture is to restore balance to the system.  It is utilized to help ease many types of pain that are often chronic such as low-back pain, neck pain, and osteoarthritis/knee pain. It also may help reduce the frequency of tension headaches and prevent migraine headaches.

Chiropractic Manipulation – an ortho-spinology specialist

Chiropractic Manipulation is a healthcare profession that focuses on the relationship between the body's structure—mainly the spine—and its functioning. Treatments include  adjustments (manipulations) to the spine or other parts of the body with the goal of correcting alignment problems, alleviating pain, improving function, and supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself.  We work with an Ortho-spinology specialist, not a general chiropractor.  The method of adjustment and advanced training makes a difference.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the use of oxygen in a pressurized environment at a level higher than 1 atmosphere absolute (ATA).  This allows for oxygen saturation of the blood providing a variety of positive biochemical and cellular effects. Oxygen is essential for the body to heal and HBOT has been shown in several studies to improve the body’s ability to repair and regenerate. Mild hyperbaric provides a 30 percent increase in pressure ie 1.3 ATA, the level approved by the FDA for exceptionally safe increases in tissue oxygen levels.  Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been used for decompression sickness, a hazard of scuba diving and wound care in hospitals for many years.   Increasing the total body level of oxygen helps fight bacteria and stimulate the release of growth factors and stem cells to promote healing.  Other conditions treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy include: Anti-aging, Sports injury/maintenance, Autism, TBI, Neurology, Stroke, Inflammation, Memory and Diabetes.

Intravenous Therapy

Nutritional

Optimal health requires sufficient nutrition. IV therapy is a safe way to get nutrients into the blood stream and deliver therapeutic doses. These nutrients are needed for metabolic and detoxification pathways to function.  Who would benefit from IV therapy?  People with food sensitivities, gut dysbiosis, inflammatory conditions such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease, fatigue, toxic exposures, headaches and autoimmune disease to name a few. Specific  IV therapy also restores function to cell membranes which is where cellular communication occurs.

We offer a variety of IV therapies at SIEM, customized for each individual needs.

Nutraceuticals

“Nutraceutical” named by Defelice (1989)  “a food, or part of, that provides medical or health benefits, including the prevention or treatment of disease.”.  Nutrients are needed for healthy  growth and development.  Nutraceuticals are regulated as dietary substances by the FDA and are grouped in the following categories: nutritional grade, medical grade, pharmaceutical grade of agricultural grade.  Dietary Supplements are commonly concentrated in liquid, capsule, powder or pill form. Not all supplements are tested for purity, dissolution or absorption.   SIEM only uses physician grade products as these are tested both pre and post production for toxic ingredients and to insure the accurate dose is in each serving.  They are also tested for bioavailability and third party verification.  We do not private label as it is important to be sure what product you are actually taking.

Spect Scan

SPECT (single-photon emission computerized tomography)  scan lets your doctor analyze the function of some of your internal organs. A SPECT scan is a type of nuclear imaging test, which means it uses a radioactive substance and a special camera to create 3-D pictures.  While imaging tests such as X-rays can show what the structures inside your body look like, a SPECT scan produces images that show function. For instance, a SPECT scan can show how blood flows to your heart or what areas of your brain are more active or less active.  The spect scan also provides a look at the overall health and levels of toxicity of the brain. It can be used to help guide nutrient therapies for better cognitive function.  Many people have inflamed brains affecting both mood and social behaviors.

BioMat

The biomat deals with healing on the physical, emotional and mental level.  It provides cellular regeneration that enables the body’s waste removal systems to work efficiently and help with the ability to sleep and relax.

Far infrared rays are part of the electromagnetic light spectrum and are close to the light frequency of natural sunlight. However, far infrared does not contain any of sunlight’s harmful UV/UVB radiation. The beneficial properties of far infrared light have received particular attention from the scientific community in recent years, although the first research conducted on this part of the light spectrum was undertaken by NASA several decades ago.

More recent studies show that far infrared light stimulates the production of healthy cell tissue, which can promote faster, more complete healing processes.

Because the BioMat’s far infrared rays penetrate deeply into the body and address imbalances at the cellular level, it can be used to treat a wide range of health issues.  A recent study released in 2011 by Dr George Grant, demonstrated biomat use quantitatively reduced stress 78%, validated by pre and post biofeedback brain scans as well as serum cortisol levels.

BioMats are approved for Medical use for relaxation of muscles and the increase of local circulation where applied (US FDA’s Medical Device 510K indications ).

Homeopathy

Homeopathy, or homeopathic medicine, is a medical philosophy and practice based on the idea that the body has the ability to heal itself. Homeopathy is based on the idea that "like cures like." That is, if a substance causes a symptom in a healthy person, giving the person a very small amount of the same substance may cure the illness. In theory, a homeopathic dose enhances the body's normal healing and self-regulatory processes.  We often combine homeopathy with other treatments to contribute to the synergy for optimal results.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

As men and women age hormone levels decline or perhaps, aging occurs because hormone levels decline.  Whichever way you look at it, balanced hormones are part of living an optimal life.  Sex hormones are not the only hormones to consider, adrenal and thyroid hormones play an important role in the overall balancing as they all work together.  At SIEM we work to optimize all your hormones for the best outcome.  We use bio-identical hormones, rather then synthetic or horse derived.   Hormone replacement is not just about having hot flashes, hormones have many jobs in the body such as being part of heart health, brain function/memroy, weight balance, and sleep.  Many ladies simply just don’t “feel like themselves”.   Hormone replacement is also not just for women, men experience andropause (male menopause) caused by low testosterone.  Men can suffer with fatigue, decreased muscle mass, loss of libido and bone to name just a few.

Hyperbaric Chamber

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized room or tube. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a well-established treatment for decompression sickness, a hazard of scuba diving. Other conditions treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy include serious infections, bubbles of air in your blood vessels, and wounds that won't heal as a result of diabetes or radiation injury.

In a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, the air pressure is increased to three times higher than normal air pressure. Under these conditions, your lungs can gather more oxygen than would be possible breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure. Your blood carries this oxygen throughout your body. This helps fight bacteria and stimulate the release of substances called growth factors and stem cells, which promote healing.

Nutraceuticals

Nutraceuticals is a broad umbrella term that is used to describe any product derived from food sources with extra health benefits in addition to the basic nutritional value found in foods. They can be considered non-specific biological therapies used to promote general well-being, control symptoms and prevent malignant processes. Nutraceuticals are regulated by the FDA and are grouped in the following categories: dietary supplements, functional food, medicinal food, pharmaceuticals.

Dietary Supplements are commonly concentrated in liquid, capsule, powder or pill form. SIEM only uses physician grade products as these are tested both pre and post production for toxic ingredients and to insure the accurate dose is in each serving.
